]All contests need rules, right? Weeeeeell, here:
1. Sign up
2. Show up
1. Fill out the nifty little poll. Its got clickies!!!
2. Go to the sprints room of your choice.
3. Participate in the sprints!
4. Submit your piece, on whatever topic you've chosen to the post that will be made February 1st.
How it all works:
Mods will keep track of who shows up and who is participating. Its kinda simple. You go, you say hi, you write, the mods write down your AIM handle. At the end of the week, or day, or whenever the mods feel like, they will send me an email with the participation. If your AIM name is on the list, you get a point. The most points at the end of the month, wins. At least that part of the contest.
The second part: THE SUBMISSION! Dun, dun, dun! In a reply to the above mentioned post, copy your piece. Each week is a new piece. There are 4 weeks in February, so you should have 4 pieces. If you'd like, you can post your submission in the form of a link, either to your LJ where it is posted or to an external site. The stipulation is that it cannot be previously published. The goal is to promote fresh and new writing, not to pimp the old stuff.
Your piece will be read by members of this comm and will vote on the one they like the most. NOTE: (and its in bold, italics, and underlined cause I cannot stress this enough) THIS IS NOT A POPULARITY CONTEST.
The idea is that the best writing wins. This helps those that have not won to improve on their writing (I'll get to that in a minute). If you just vote for your friends, that does NO ONE any good. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO VOTE FOR YOUR
OWN WORK!! You may vote for more than one piece if you absolutely cannot decide. Who votes for what work will NOT be visibile to anyone but me, so you don't have to worry about drama, "Why didn't you vote for me? I thought we were friends!" There. You have no excuse now. Nyah nyah!
Last little bit: The work will be commented on: privately. This means, if you wish to critique a piece, you MUST send all comments and suggestions to the owner of the piece in private. We've all got an LJ account there, we all have access to some form of email. Stipulation: If you crit one, you MUST crit at least two more. If you submit, you MUST crit at least 3. This keeps it fair. If you're not willing to help out another, why should anyone else in this comm help you out?
Its not mean. Its keeping people everything balanced.
The prizes! For showing up and writing, the top three people will get a gift card to Barnes and Noble. (If you win and don't have a B&N near you and hate ordering things online, let me know, and we'll work something out.)
For winning the best submission, you will also get a B&N gift card, but of a higher amount.
NOTE: There will be four winners. If you win in one category you cannot win in the other. Ex: You win the best submission and are in the top three participants. You will get the gift card for the best submission. This does not work the other way, as in, you will not get the card for participation and not for the submission.
I know there's a lot going on for this one contest, if you have any questions at all, feel free to ask me. If you want to participate, but can't think of a damned thing to write, ask me. I've got tons of ideas I'm willing to give out. Free even!
ETA: The amounts of the cards will be determined later. These are coming from my own pocket and will be determined based on how much money I will have at the end of the month. They will at least be $10, which I know is small, but combined that's $50 of my own money.
Also, when you crit, email me and let me know who's piece you have crit. This lets me know who still needs crits and who has done their crits. Don't lie! I will be checking up on this.
Also also, if you want to crit and not sub, that's fine too.
Also also also, if you want to do a really big favor for some people, ask me who needs crits the most.
Also also also also, I just wanted to type also again. =)
