So, much to my dismay, [livejournal.com profile] brigits_flame recently announced that the community is closing down this summer.  I'm not sure how many of you were aware of the community, but they have been hosting monthly writing contests (occasionally for prizes, usually for personal gratification) for several years now.  There's talk of trying to keep something minimal going on, so it doesn't vanish completely, but I'm not sure whether that's going to go anywhere.

On the occasions when I've been able to take part, the Flame has been responsible for getting me to "poke" at writing even when it might not be at the forefront of my mind.  The weekly prompts got me writing, and actually sharing my writing; plus with the structure of the community/contest, I was getting and giving feedback on things, too.  It's been a great experience and I feel like my writing has really developed as a result.

I don't intend for this to be an advertisement-- they are shutting down, as I said-- but this all leads to a couple of questions:

What inspires you to write?  And what makes you willing to share what you have written?
